Kerry, a world leader in the food, beverage and pharma industries, is a Taste and Nutrition solutions provider with many applications in bakery, confectionery, dairy, meals, meat, poultry and seafood, snacks and beverages. Some of the world’s best-known food, beverage and pharma brands benefit from Kerry’s expertise, insights and know-how.
On May, 23, Kerry organized, in Bucharest, a seminar titled “Meeting consumer demand for better bakery in a changing regulatory environment”. This was a learning event designed for a group of 40 representatives from bakery companies and ingredient distributors across Eastern Europe, including Romania. It was the first event of its kind in a series that will continue in Eastern Europe.
„This kind of seminar is a very good opportunity to discuss with our clients the main issues that are shaping the future of the bakery industry, the key trends, opportunities and challenges we are facing together. Our objective is to share market insight, technical knowledge and regulatory updates with bakery manufacturers, with a view to informing future innovation in the taste & nutrition aspects of bakery products.
In addition, participants share their own market experience and offer solutions to each other, even if some of them come from the same industry and compete, creating a solid community that shares their common interest.
We aim to do this in an interactive, impartial way, with thought-provoking presentations and hands-on concept demonstrations. We are fortunate to count on participation by representatives from the Kerry Health & Nutrition Institute, from Mintel, and from colleagues in Kerry’s Regulatory and Technical Applications teams to make the event both informative and practical”, said Bill Sheridan, Strategic Marketing Director Kerry Europe & Russia.
With an emphasis on the ‘Fine Bakery’ category, this seminar focused on the following topics:
<> Consumer trends and the challenges they bring for bakery innovation in Eastern Europe
<> The changing regulatory environment, and its implications for bakery manufacturers
<> Understanding consumer demand for nutritionally optimised bakery goods.
<> How to achieve a ‘cleaner label’ for long-life bakery products.
<> Improving the nutritional profile of baked goods without compromising the taste
In addition, a large selection of innovative bakery products from various countries, demonstrating new ingredient technologies in application, was available for tasting and discussion.
The Bakery Seminar in Bucharest was the first such event organized by Kerry not only in Romania but in the wider Eastern Europe region. It will likely be followed in the future with similar events for other food and beverage categories.
„It is a unique event for a relatively small and varied group of industry players – we wanted it to be small, so that the participants would interact with each other. We started with Bakery because it’s a very interesting industry with a lot of potential but also with a lot of challenges.
”The feedback we received from the participants after the seminar was very positive, extremely encouraging. Most importantly, they told us that they learned a lot.
We will continue to host similar events involving companies from other categories like dairy (including ice cream), soup & sauces, prepared meals, snacks, confectionery and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Romania is part of a very fast growing region in Europe with a great future,” said Bill Sheridan.
