Lidl Romania marked the opening of the 400th stor in Romania, in Voluntari city, Ilfov district, a reference moment in the company’s evolution on the local market.

Kaufland Romania announced the rebranding of the Kaufland Card loyalty program as Kaufland Card XTRA, which offers clients hundreds of available products at 1 penny, through the XTR point in the app.

The Competition Council draws attention to the fact that each company must independently establish its commercial policy, and the artificial increase of prices and the anticipation of a price that should be practiced can be considered under the Competition Law.

The Romanian Brewers Association marked 21 years of continuous activity, confirming the maturity of a domain that became a strategic partner for the Romanian economy and society. The association launched the annual activity report, a radiography of the beer domain in Romania, in 2025, which shows a historic decrease in the market from the last 20 years.
Nutrimax, a pet food producer from Georgia, with over 16 years of experience in pet nutrition and industrial production, wants to expand on the Romanian market as part of its strategy of European growth, aiming at the development of strong partnerships with retailers, distributors and operators of private label.

In the last 5 years, the consumers’ preferences in City Grill Group restaurants changed: the interest for the origin of the ingredients increased, they prefer the more concentrated menus, and the complete experience – price-quality report, services, design, atmosphere – became the main criteria to return.
Premier Restaurants Romania, the operator of the McDonald’s restaurants in Romania, expanded the local network by opening a new restaurant in Floresti, Cluj, in the Urbano Shopping & Living commercial park. The company announced the solid results for 2025, supported by continued investments in development and operational efficiency.
The restaurant network Mesopotamia accelerated the development rhythm and marked an important step by opening five new restaurants in less than 10 days.
Burger King continued the expansion in Romania and opened a new restaurant in Brasov, in Coresi Shopping Resort, the biggest commercial center in the center of the country.
City Grill Group, the leader on the Romanian market of restaurants with a consolidated market share of 90 million euros in 2025, announced an investment of 7 million euros for building a new factory dedicated to ready meals products, which is located in Buftea, Ilfov district.
Sphera Franchise Group, the biggest restaurant operator in the foodservice industry in Romania, marked a new step in its regional expansion and opened the first Taco Bell restaurant in the Republic of Moldova.
E-commerce
The Freshful by eMAG data showed an increase of 27% of the number of clients during the Easter holiday season, as a sign that more consumers choose online shopping to take advantage of the offers and to avoid the congestion in stores.
Wolt, the local commerce platform that connects users with restaurants and stores, announced the conclusions of the Romanian consumers’ behavior in the Easter holidays and the operational results for the first quarter of 2026.
The online supermarket Sezamo collected 1.5 million packages through the Guarantee-Return System and saved over 11 tons of food in the first months of 2026.
For the World Day against Food Waste, The Access Alliance, an initiative launched and supported by Glovo, which reunites companies, NGOs and public authorities, highlights through a report that 6 out of 10 Romanians were afraid in the last year that they would not have enough money for food, while tons of food products are going to waste every day.

Raben Group, the supplier of transport services and logistic solutions, finished 2025 with income of over 2.3 billion euros, an increase of over 6% than last year and with an increase of over 5.1% of the number of transports in a context in which the European industry went through economic and geopolitical instability, cost pressures and volume decreased.

Analysis
Romania is one of the most dynamic mergers and acquisitions markets in Central and Eastern Europe, with a growing rate of 9% of the number of transactions in 2025, more than double that of the region of 4%, according to the Mergermarket data analyzed by Deloitte Romania.
In March 2026, 13 stores were opened in the local FMCG retail market.
The PwC report „Future of Food 2.0” identified the most dynamic increasing zones in the food ecosystem in the next 10 years and estimated that these will reach a cumulated value of 3.1 trillion dollars in this period, growing almost 4 times quicker than the global food industry, which is estimated to reach 9.9 trillion dollars.
