After a big summer brake, romanian retailers are starting to open stores again, the prevaling format store are convenience and discounter.

Mega Image reached this week 250 stores in Romania, 100 stores under the Shop&Go banner, the smaller format and 150 stores under Mega Image banner. Mega Image is number one romanian retailer, after the number of stores.

Auchan Group announced last week that the Auchan-real transaction has been completed regarding the acquisition of 20 real hypermarkets in Romania, following the agreement signed on November 30, 2012 betwen Auchan Group and Metro Group and validation received from the Competition Council in Romania in late July. The real 20 stores will be rebranded in one year.

After departing of  Francois Melchior de Polignac, Ex Managing Director, have made ​​two more changes in top management on Carrefour Romania: Rami Baiteh, which will hold the position of Vlad Ardeleanu, as commercial director, who came from Carrefour Turkey and Pascal Bordeaux, as Supermarkets Director, who also came from Carrefour Turkey.

Three new stores for Lidl Romania, last wek and this week, in Bacau, Caracal and Cluj-Napoca and Lidl reach a total number of 163 stores in Romania.

PROFI Rom Food CEO, Pawel Musial, has been appointed a member of the Supervisory Board of the X5 Retail Group N.V., a position he will hold for four years. X5 Retail Group N.V. (X5) is a leading Russian food retailer that operates the Pyaterochka soft discounter chain, the Perekrestok supermarket chain, the Karusel hypermarket chain, the online retail channel under brand and various convenience stores.

With three new stores opened in Cluj-Napoca, Baia Mare and Huedin, PROFI grows to a total of 173 stores in operation on the romanian market. Currently, PROFI is present in 95 localities in 36 counties and has more than 4.500 employees, standing out as the second largest modern food retailer in Romania.
