Month of April brought to the romanian grocery retail 8 new stores, one new store concept and a premiere for romanian retail market, all this in the context of the imminent reduction in VAT (june 1th) on food products, from 24% to 9% and consumer concern about rising prices on the shelves.

Mega Image retailer launched another store concept into romanian market retail – Gusturi Romanesti (Romanian Tastes) – which will give consumers a wide range of traditional romanian products made according to traditional recipes, authentic and recognized for the quality and expertise of each area of the country – Photo Gallery.
Mega Image has also opened 4 stores (1 Mega Image banner and 3 Shop&Go banner) and his network stores reached 415 units in Romania. Mega Image is the larger retailer, in terms of store numbers, from Romania.
A very important premiere for retail market in Romania is opening the first store Marks & Spencer Food, in the new Mega Mall shopping center, in Bucharest, that will open on May 14, 2015.
Carrefour Romania has opened a new supermarket „Market„ in Brasov city, bringing the total number to 93 stores in this format. In Romania, Carrefour Group counts 174 stores including 27 hypermarkets ‘Carrefour’, 93 supermarkets ‘Market’, 44 proximity stores ‘Express’, 9 convenience stores ‘Contact’ and one online store.
PROFI retailer has opened another 4 stores and its national network reaching 292 stores, in 137 localities from Romania.
The Romanian Institute of Statistics anounced that, in Romania, the retail turnover increased by almost 5% in the first two months of the year.
The Association of Big Commercial Networks in Romania (AMRCR) assures romanian consumers that the recent measures of the Government to reduce VAT on food from 24% to 9% will be fully reflected in the shelf price.
