retailRetail – Lidl

After 3 years in the management of Lidl Romania, Marco Giudici takes over a strategic role in the international team of Acquisitions of Lidl Group, starting in September 2024. José Alberto Chueca Val will be the CEO of Lidl Romania.

Retail – Auchan

Auchan Romania continued the development of the multi-format network and launched the franchise program, a new approach for the retailer in the proximity domain, dedicated to entrepreneurs from food retail. The first franchise store, Simply by Auchan was opened in Popesti Leordeni.

Auchan Romania and the Sustainability Academy signed a partnership through which will be developed sustainability courses with specific applicability for the supplying chains from retail industry.

Auchan opened on 25th of July a new ATAC Hiper Discount store, the format with the smallest prices of the network, in Galati, after the units opened in Brasov, Ploiesti, Timisoara, and Targu Mures.

AAyles ONE Group, the producer of the chicken meat brand Cocorico, launched a partnership with Auchan Retail Romania and a new concept of restaurants that will be located in the exterior of Auchan hypermarkets. The first unit of Artisan by Cocorico, the newest division of the natural chicken meat brand was opened on the 27th of July in Auchan Constanta Sud.

Starting with July 2024, Auchan brought, in premiere, in its stores, the ultra-premium olive oils, 100% natural, from Maslinescu, the only awarded olive oil winery in Romania, with clean products, high quality, with controlled traceability, from mill to plate, from the most prestigious producers in the world.

As a result of the partnership between CNDR and ANPC, „Equal chances for an independent life”, in the Auchan Berceni hypermarket, the retailer developed a complex program of efficient solutions meant to facilitate shopping access to people from different disability categories.

Retail – Profi

Profi, the retailer that owns the biggest national coverage and the many stores in Romania, opened 14 stores in June 2024, reaching 1741 stores in Romania.

Chio, a top European brand of snacks, in partnership with the retailer with the biggest national coverage, Profi and Footprints AI, the start-up of advanced technologies for data monetization dedicated to retailers, obtained 16 times more return of the advertising expenses through the recent retail media campaign.

Retail – Carrefour

Carrefour Romania continued the investment in the Market format by opening a new supermarket in Cosmopolis residence, reaching 192 supermarkets in Romania and a total of almost 450 multi-format stores.

Carrefour Romania opened two Carrefour hypermarkets in Constanta: a store located in the City Park commercial center (Alexandru Lapusneanu Street 116C) and the second one located in the Bratianu district (Cumpenei street no. 2).

Carrefour Romania opened a new rebranded and remodeled hypermarket in Supernova commercial center from Alexandriei Street no.152.

Retail – Kaufland

Kaufland maintained its position in the top of the biggest retail companies in Romania based on the market share and continued to be one of the most important private employers, according to the study of the social-economic impact of the company for the financial year 2023, made by KPMG.

Kaufland Romania and the Plan B Association launched the 7th edition of the mobile school for healthy lifestyle, Akademia Kinderland Caravan.

Retail – METRO

Starting with the 1st of August 2024, Cristian Stoenica will take over the roles of Franchise Manager and member in the Administration Council of METRO Convenience Romania.

Retail – Lidl

Lidl Romania continued to support the Romanian economy by supporting local agricultural production by expanding partnerships with Romanian producers and growing the quantity of Romanian fruits and vegetables prom Lild’s Market, and by facilitating exports to Lidl stores outside the country.

Retail – other retailers

Fressnapf, leader of the European market of products for pets, marched the second anniversary in Romania by opening the 30th store in Ramnicu Valcea on the 1st of August.

FMCG

Tuborg started the summer with an innovative new product, Tuborg ICE beer, filtered at -1℃, with 4.2% alcohol. Also, the producer named Simona Potecu as Marketing Vice President.

Toneli published the first sustainability report for 2022, following the most used international reporting standard for sustainability – GRI-Core.

PepsiCo, one of the leaders of the food products and beverages industry, opened the automatized storage at the snacks factory from Popesti-Leordeni, finishing a strategic project of investment of over 100 million dollars.

Lay’s celebrated with the fans that were beside the Soul Generation and Golden Generation of football players.

Danone Romania announced a new change in the company and, starting in June, Oana Bejan became Country Topline Unit Leader of Danone Romania.

The New Originals Company, with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria, acquired the Inedit brand and the assets from Dr. Oetker Romania.

Nestlé Romania obtained a strong growth of 7.2% in the first half of 2024.

Unilever launched the shower gel range Dove Advanced Care, with a revolutionary formula based on innovative technology, 24h Renewing MicroMoisture, through which millions of micro-moisturizer particles recover actively the natural level of moisturizing of the skin, letting it smooth for 24 hours, like after applying a body lotion.

Coca-Cola Romania, the branch of The Coca-Cola Company on the local market, announced two changes in the local organization, with regional impact.

Food Service

Starting this summer, 5 to go is on the list of brands that are present in Henri Coand International Airport, where it recently opened two cafes and the operator of them is City Grill, one of the most important actors in the restaurant industry in Romania.

Burger King launched in June the mobile app in Romania.

The businesses from HoReCa are more attractive for Romanian entrepreneurs, especially the franchise system, according to Franchwise, the biggest consultancy company specializing in the franchise domain in Romania.

E-commerce

In the first summer month, ice-cream orders that were placed on Tazz food-delivery app registered a growth of 70% than in 2023.

Freshful by eMAG, the online hypermarket with the most varied range of products, is preparing for a new evolution stage and named Tudor Mihailescu as General Manager, with the mission to grow the business to a billion lei.

EcoBioGreen

RetuRO, the administrator of the Guarantee-Returning System, announced that a new version of the contract for beverages producers, from the bottled water, refreshing beverages, beer, cider, wine, and spirit beverages categories, bottled in unreusable primary packages as plastic, glass, and aluminum, with dimensions between 0.1 liters and 3 liters, was put in public consultation.

Sezamo online supermarket announced the development of the ECO range following the increased client interest: 3 out of 5 shopping baskets contain at least one ECO product.
