EXPO PET 2025 – Food & Accessories, the second edition of the B2B exhibition with products for all categories of pet food and accessories in Romania, which took place on 24th-25th of September 2025, at the Polytechnic National University of Science and Technology from Bucharest, presented the conclusions, numbers, images and story video.

retailRetail – Lidl

Lidl continued its strategic development in Romania and opened a new store in Agnita, Sibiu district and reopened other store in Buzau, which is located on Sporturilor Street 12A, after the last unit was closed on the 1st of March 2025 to be modernized to the latest standards.

Between June and September 2025, Lidl Romania facilitated the export of over 1.400 tons of 100% Romanian fruits.

In this period, Lidl Romania brought back the Deluxe holiday products in its stores, which are designed for the winter holidays.

Retail – Auchan

Auchan Romania celebrated, with offers, this month, 19 years of presence in Romanina market, 19 years of daily small prices, of sustainable partnerships with local producers, of innovation and responsibility.

Auchan Romania reunited over 100 food producers and suppliers at the second edition of Climate Supplier Event, a conference dedicated to the acceleration of the decarbonization process and increasing resilience and competitiveness in the face of climate change, in the food supplying network.

This is the first time that the philosophy of the two retail brands – MEGA IMAGE and PROFI, once competitors but now part of the same group – is explained. And who could do it better than Claude Sarrailh – CEO of Ahold Delhaize for the Europe and Indonesia regions, who was on a visit to Romania, to whom we asked a few questions.


Retail – Profi

„ACASĂ” („HOME”) is an initiative of PROFI, now part of Ahold Delhaize, and represents the biggest Romanian village reform project, made from private to public environment, in the current context of Romanians’ movement from city to village.

Profi officially opened Local Delights Shelf in the selected stores from Bucharest, offering to producers from more regions of the country the possibility to bring into the modern retail the delights that are made based on traditional recipes.

Retail – MEGA IMAGE

Mega Image celebrated 11 years of equal partnership with the local producers of fruits and vegetables from the „Romanian tastes from householders” program and announced the results registered in the first 9 months of this year.

Retail – Supeco

Supeco, the integrated discount format of Carrefour Romania, consolidated its local presence and reached 29 stores by opening one in Ploiesti.

Retail – PENNY

PENNY continued the expansion of its network at the national level and opened a new store in Husi, a new store in Targu Ocna and a new store in Piatra Neamt, reaching 430 stores in Romania.

Retail – Kaufland

Kaufland Romania expanded its presence at the national level and opened a new store in Aiud, Alba district, and a new store in Sacele, Brasov district.

Retail – Carrefour

Carrefour group reported an increase of +2,1% of the LFL sales at the global level in the third quarter of 2025, confirming its financial annual aims, but its evolution on the Romanian market was modest, based on the internal economic pressures.

Retail – other retailers

MOL Romania celebrated 10 years since launching the Fresh Corner gastro concept, through which it transformed the experience in its stations.

DIANA stores network expanded its presence in the Valcea district and opened a new store in Sirineasa, reaching 96 stores in Romania.

Once it finished the first step of the improvement process of the foodcourt zone, Promenada Mall got 8 new restaurants.

We talked in an interview with Claude Sarrailh, CEO of Ahold Delhaize for Europe and Indonesia, about the growth strategy for Profi and MEGA IMAGE.

The Competition Council announced that it made unannounced inspections at the headquarters of the six big networks of retail that operate on the food products sale market in Romania, with a focus on the dairy segment. The retailers are Metro, Selgros, Auchan, Carrefour, Kaufland and Mega Image.

FMCG

Almost 2000 vet doctors collaborate in Romania with PURINA, one of the biggest global pet food producers, owned by Nestle, making one of the most expanded networks that collaborate for the health and wellness of pets in Romania.

The animal proteins continue to be fundamental in Romanian food, but the veggie alternatives are taking more place in the daily menu. A new study from Danone Romania about the food behaviors of Romanians, with special focus on the protein intake, shows that, even if meat and dairy remain the main pillars of the diet, the information level about the role of proteins in the daily diet remains low. Also, Danone Romania started the registration for the 13th edition of the program „Come home with Danone” that will run throughout the entire school year.

DAXI Business Group, the supplier of FMCG products for retail and HoReCa, presented, at Ro-Wine – The international Wine Festival of Romania, the professional textile products from Roll Drap range, the premium label of Texia company from Spain – a European reference in HoReCa textiles since 1917.

PepsiCo, one of the leaders of the food and beverage products industry, opened a new line of bottling beverages in cans after an investment of 8.5 million dollars.

Nestlé Group reported sales in the first nine months of 2025 and announced an organic increase of 3.3%.

Alpro, the leader of the segment of plant-based products owned by Danone, launched a new range, Alpro Kids, with fermented products and plant-based beverages created for children.

Nespresso introduced the new festive collection, which proposes a celebration of every moment of preparation for the holidays.

Food Service

Flavours, a leader in the premium catering segment and restaurants dedicated to offices and schools, opened the newest restaurant in its network, in Genesis College in Bucharest.

According to the Hospitality Culture Research 2025, the delivery segment represents 27% of the urban HoReCa market, while classic restaurants account for 26%.

Burger King continued its expansion in Romania and opened a new restaurant in Iulius Mall Cluj-Napoca.

E-commerce

At the Smart City Highlight, the event organized by the Polytechnic University of Bucharest in partnership with CITI Cluster, Glovo presented the last-mile solutions for more efficient and sustainable cities, based on mobility with low emissions, route optimization and collaboration with the social sector through Glovo Access.

Horeca Orders, the number 1 app in Romania for orders transmission between restaurants and suppliers that simplifies the operations for cooks, owners and sales representatives, is used now by over 2300 restaurants, with a monthly volume of over 38.000 orders, made to over 280 suppliers, which gives the application a market share of almost 7&.

Freshful by eMAG, the first 100% online hypermarket in Romania, celebrated 4 years of activity, while it delivered over 3.4 million orders to 233.000 households.

With the occasion of the International Pasta Day, the data from Glovo, the tech platform that offers requested services rom more categories, with a varied range of products, showed that Romania is on the first place in South-Eastren Europe and on the third place in the world on the pasta consumption, with over 1.7 millions dishes delivered in the last 12 months on the platform.

On Black Friday, Romanians are looking to shop more on online marketplaces, like eMAG and Altex, where they aim for the best sales of the year, according to Cargus.

EcoBioGreen

Circularity is becoming part of the collective mindset, according to the third wave of the international study made at the request of Every Can Counts, conducted in 16 countries and on a sample of over 16.000 participants (of which 1.013 in Romania).

Services

EUROFIT, a member of the Voyatzoglou Group and integrator with experience in complex solutions of automation for deposits in Romania, announced the implementation of the first 3D Pallet Suttle project in Europe.

Mercedes-Benz Vans is reinventing the light commercial vehicle segment.

EuPlatesc, one of the main payment processors in Romania, announced that, starting with August 2025, its services of payment processing and online cashing are VAT exempt, a measure that can bring direct economies up to 21% for retailers.

Analysis

The industrial and logistics spaces stock on the local market is almost at 8 million sqm, over 60% of which is located in projects that are at a maximum one hour from Bucharest, while Moldova and Oltenia remain the least developed regions, but with higher potential for catching u with the infrastructure development, according to the Romania Industrial & logistics Market report, made by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.

Romania is increasingly emerging as a key retail market in Central and Eastern Europe, according to „ExCEEding Borders Report | Retail parks: Diverse Growth, Shared Momentum”, published by Colliers.

In September 2025, 21 stores were opened in the local FMCG retail market.

The supermarkets sector in Romania finished 2024 with a total market share of 149 billion lei, an increase of 4.35% from last year, and a cumulated net profit of 4.1 billion lei, according to the financial analysis platform RiscCo.ro.

The income collected by the state on taxes applied to spirits beverages registered a decrease of 53.87 million lei in the first 9 months of 2025 than the same period from 2024, even if the tax was increased by over 14.4%, according to Spirits Romania.

The deliveries of retail projects at the national level exceeded in the first 9 months the level registered in 2024, and 2025 seem to be the second most prolific year in the last decade, based on the development activity of new retail spaces, as shown in the Romania Retail Marketbeat Q3 2025 report published by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.
