Retail – Carrefour
The French group Carrefour announced a strong financial performance for the first half of the year, with increasing sales with 11.2% than the same period of the last year, e-commerce increased with 20% and a ROI of 700 millions euro in S1 2023. The values of the local market, in comparable terms (LFL), placed Carrefour Romania on the second position according to the evolution of the market share in Europe.
The Competition Council announced that it analysis the transaction through which Carrefour group inteds to take over Romania Hypermarche S.A., a company that operates in Romania the hypermarket netwrok Cora and proximity stores Cora Urban.
Between 18th and 20th of August, Carrefour officially presented the newest program that supports local producers, „Here is the Romanian Cheese”, at a fair of traditional products in Iasi.
Agricultural cooperative Patravul din Tara Ta officially launched its first fish farm on Oasa lake, the second biggest artificial lake in Romania, that will exclusively deliver in Carrefour stores fresh trout.
Carrefour Romania continued its expansion and opened the first hypermarket in Alba Iulia.
Retail – PENNY
To respect the mission for sutainable development, PENNY inveted in the team and raised the minimum net salary for entering the company at 3158 lei.
PENNY, one of the most active retailers in Romania, extended its network and opened a new store in Darabani, Botosani district, one store in Brasov and one store in Cosntanta, reaching 349 stores.
PENNY Romania, part of REWE group, announced an initiative of streamlining its operations by impementing talent software robots, in partnership with Tailent, supplier of top RPA technology.
Retail – Kaufland
Kaufland joined the Romanian Rugby Federation as Official Partner of National Teams and National Rugby League.
Kaufland Romania opened on 10th of August a new store in Pipera district, Bucharest, reaching 169 stores in the country.
Kaufland Romania announced an investment of 7 millions euro to expand and streamline the infrastructure of separate collection for clients.
Retail – Profi
Masterfully combining wine tradition and 21st century technology, PROFI, a Romanian company, redefined the buying experience by introducing the „Crama Somelierilor” brand.
PROFI, the retailer that owns the network with the biggest national coverage and the most stores in Romania, opened 4 stores in August 2023, reaching 1677 stores.
Retail – Auchan
Until 19th of September, Auchan prepared thousands of articles dedicated to the beginning of the school year, part of the offer Back to School.
Retail – other retailers
Animax, the pet retailer with the most expanded network of stores in Romania, consolidated the position on the market by opening two new stores, in Bucharest and Alba Iulia, after a total investment of 270.000 euro.
SMYK All for Kids, one of the biggest retailers of the segment of toys, clothes, shoes and accessorizes for children, expanded the national network with a store in the newest mall in the country, Carolina Alba Iulia.
FMCG
Bergenbier S.A., part of the group Molson Coors, has a new member in the leadership team, Monica Constantin, as Legal & Corporate Affairs Director.
Thibaut Boidin is the new Managing Director of HEINEKEN Romania, strating with 1st of September 2023.
The group of companies Perla Harghitei and Apemin Tusnad, one of te biggest producers of natural mineral water in Romania, named Mihai Neagu as General Manager of both companies.

Food Service
Sphera Franchise Group, leader of the food service indutry in Romania, that owns the company that administrates KFC brand in franchise system on local market, opened the second restaurant in Alba Iulia, after an investment of almost half of million euro.
Burger King opened a new restaurant in Timisoara.
E-commerce
The online supermarket Sezamo launched a new category, Special Nutrition, that includes over 1000 products in seven subcategories: no sugar, no gluten, no diary, Keto, Dukan, superfoods and protein.
EcoBioGreen
RetuRO, the company that administrated the Guarrantee-Returning System (SGR) in Romania, published on the platform the specifications and requirements for automatic beverage packaging machines.
The Guarrantee-Returning System (SGR) entered a new step of development, with the signature by RetuRO of the acquisition agreement of equipment for regional centers with Anker Andersen A/S, leader on the market of high performance counting and sorting systems, offering a diverse range of products for markets and countries that implemented a national system of guarrantee-return.
Services
Fracht Group, international sender with operations in 70 countries and over 140 offices in the world, signed a joint venture partnership with YLOAD, Romanian start-up that created the first marketplace of transports in Eastern Europe.
