Retail – Lidl
Lidl Romania tested in premiere a new product in the fresh fish category: Fish Today salmon burger, the only burger with fresh salmon available on the market, a product made in partnership with a partner from Romania.
Retail – Carrefour
Carrefour Romania launched the first bio agriculture cooperative developed by local producers with the support of a retailer.
Carrefour Romania presented the consumer profile of its clients from the loyalty platform Act for Good.
Carrefour Romania introduced, in national premiere, Smart Cart, the first system of intelligent carts in Romania.
Carrefour launched Refrigerator with Good Taste, an initiative that helps Romanians to adopt healthier food behaviors that are adapted to their lifestyle.
Retail – PENNY
PENNY Romania continued its expansion plan at the national level by opening a new store in Adunatii Copaceni, Giurgiu district, a new store in Barlad, Vaslui district, a new store in Odobesti, Vrancea district, and two new stores in Suceava and Roata de Jos.
Retail – Auchan
Auchan Retail Romania launched a new edition of the Trainee program, an accelerated program for 6 months dedicated to young people who want to develop a career in retail.
Auchan Romania accelerated the transition towards green energy, with the objective to reduce by 40% the stores’ consumption and to use 100% renewable energy by 2030.

Romanians spent almost 40 billion euros last year in the largest retail networks, an amount 7.1% higher than in 2023, according to the Romania Retail Snapshot 2025 study, conducted by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.

Coca-Cola HBC Romania, strategic partner of bottling of The Coca-Cola Company and leader of the local industry of beverages, announced changes in the local organization, in line with the company’s commitment to develop its talents, locally and regionally. Also, starting on the 1st of September, Luisa Ortega will take over the role of president of the Europe Operations Unit.
Royal FrieslandCampina N.V. reached an agreement for selling to Bonafarm Group its operations in Romania, including the Napolact brand and its production facilities from Cluj-Napoca and Targu Mures.
Bergenbier, one of the most loved beer brands in Romania, celebrated 30 years of uninterrupted presence on the local market, celebrating three decades of authentic friendship with the motto „Friends know why”.
Food Service
Nespresso marked a new stage in its evolution, after 10 years on the local market, by officially opening a new boutique in Baneasa Shopping City, fully developed on the global concept of Coffee as an Art.
E-commerce
According to the data of MerchantPro Compass, the semi-annual analysis made by MerchantPro, the Saas solutions platform for e-commerce that supports over 2000 active online stores, the first half of the current year confirmed a paradigm shift: it is not about how much you sell anymore, but about how efficiently you sell.
Visa, the global leader of digital payments, launched in Romania the program ePOSibil – an initiative dedicated to digitization and expanding the acceptance of electronic payments for small and medium businesses.
Using its technology and logistic networks, Glovo, the multi-category platform that offers access to a large variety of products, delivered over 2 million free dishes in Romania through its digital platform Glovo Access.
8 of 10 Romanian retail companies are waiting for their activity to be affected by the international platforms in the next 12 months, according to the second study „The impact of international platforms on commerce in Romania – Future perspectives”, made by the Romanian Association of Online Stores and MIA Marketing.
Sezamo online supermarket reported a significant increase in interest for Italian products, these being present in almost 25% of the orders.

The Brand Footrint 2025 report, made by the research company YouGov in partnership with Worldpanel by Numerator, showed that the most chosen FMCG brand by the local consumers remained Coca-Cola, followed by Pepsi and Dr. Oetker.
The technology becomes a key tool for Romanians in health monitoring; 69% of the respondents of the Voice of the Consumer 2025 survey, made by PwC Romania, use apps of intelligent devices, which influenced their daily behaviors, with a third showing that they significantly changed their lifestyle.
The retail market in Romania continued to attract a bigger number of international brands, according to an analysis made by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox, showing that over 40 international retailers entered the Romanian market between 2020 and 2025.
