Retail – PENNY
PENNY Romania opened a new logistics center in Mihailesti, Giurgiu district – an investment of 35 million euros and the first warehouse of the network that works without gas heating.
PENNY continued the expansion of its network at the national level and opened a new store in Costesti, Argeș district, three new stores in Varasti, Strejnicu and Dolhasca, three new stores in Topoloveni, Bucharest and Cornu Luncii, and four new stores in Bacau, Resita, Odoreu and Topraisar, reaching 441 stores.
Retail – Auchan
Auchan Romania and BRD – Groupe Société Générale launched a sustainable financing package dedicated to Auchan suppliers.
Auchan Romania launched the Black Friday 2025 campaign, which took place between the 5th and 18th of November, in stores and online, on auchan.ro.
Auchan Retail Romania brought to Oradea the successful format with an aggressive policy of small prices, ATAC Hiper Discount.
Retail – Lidl
After the success of Deluxe Dubai Chocolate, Lidl Romania launched three new products of Deluxe chocolate, developed in collaboration with a local supplier.
Lidl Romania expanded the availability of Romanian potatoes on shelves in the extra season.
Lidl Romania continued the transformation of recycling into a real advantage for clients and launched the fourth edition of this year’s campaign „Recycle and win with Lidl Plus”.
Lidl opened two new stores in Jibou, Salaj district, and in Drobeta Turnu Severin, Mehedinti district, units that bring quality products to their clients at accessible prices, in an environment that facilitates a quick, safe and nice shopping.
Retail – Kaufland
Kaufland Romania expanded its presence at a national level and opened a new store in Mizil, Prahova district, and a new store in Bistrita.
Kaufland Romania launched, between the 29th of November and the 5th of December, the special campaign for Saint Nicholas, which brought discounts of 50% at all games, available in all the stores.
Retail – Ahold Delhaize
Ahold Delhaize, the international group of retail that owns PROFI and MEGA IMAGE, reported a strong growth in the third quarter of 2025, supported significantly by the integration of the Profi network in Romania and the advance of online sales.
Ahold Delhaize named Xavier Piesvauz as Country Manager of Romania, starting with the 1st of January 2026.
Retail – Carrefour
Carrefour Romania continued the expansion of the national network and opened five proximity stores in November.
Supeco, the discount format of Carrefour Romania, opened in Dragomiresti-Vale the first store specially built for the rural communities and for small towns, under 10.000 people.
Retail – other retailers
Hunedoara marked the official opening of the GP Plaza commercial center, a private investment of over 7 million euros, made by the company owned by Gica Popescu.
NEPI Rockcastle, the third biggest owner of commercial centers in Europe, with a portfolio that is valued at over 8 billion euros, named Marek Noetzel as CEO, starting on the 1st of April 2026.
The Competition Council identified a series of competition concerns about the transaction through which the Schwarz Group, which operates in Romania the Kaufland and Lidl networks, wants to take over the La Cocos stores.
dm drogerie markt Romania finished the financial year 2024-2025 with a market share of 2.156.287.756 lei, an increase of 21.77% from last year.
Goldbach Group signed a strategic partnership with Hubix, a Romanian company of management and investments, and attracted an investment of over 5.3 million euros for the development of four new retail parks under the K2 brand.

AQUILA, one of the biggest players in the distribution sector of FMCG in Romania and in the region, with over 30 years of experience in this industry, registered an income of almost 2.5 billion lei in January-September 2025, with an increase of 17% from the same period of last year.

IL TACCHINO, the first concept of Premium Fast casual restaurants integrally developed in Romania and that has two restaurants in Bucharest and Ilfov, wants to open 8 new restaurants in Bucharest and in other cities in the country in the next 2 years.
Premier Restaurants Romania, the operator of the McDonald’s restaurant network in Romania, continued the investment in its network development and opened the McDonald’s Ploiești Vest Drive-Thru restaurant.
Popeyes opened the second restaurant in Iasi, stepping forward with the expansion in the country, and Iasi became the third city in Romania where Popeyes expanded its presence in 2025.
Burger King expanded its presence in Piatra Neamt and opened the second restaurant in town in Shopping City Piatra Neamt.
E-commerce
eMAG organized on the 7th of November the 15th edition of Black Friday, the day with the most discounts of the year.

Analysis
In 2025, Romanians have an average shopping power of 11.105 euros per person, an increase from last year, but still at almost 45% under the European average, according to the annual study „NIQ GfK Purchasing Power Europe 2025”.
The volume of logistics and industrial spaces rented in the first nine months of the year reached almost 750.000 sqm, representing an increase of 30% from last year, according to the Romania Industrial Marketbeat Q3 2025 report, made by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.
