PENNY Romania continued the expansion and opened a store in Filipestii de Padure, two stores in Satu Mare and Isaceea, 6 stores in Barlad, Targu Lapus, Orbeasca, Santandrei, Bistrita, and Intorsura Buzaului, and 9 more store in Ipotesti, Buzau, Voinesti, Podu Turcului, Mihailesti, Miercurea Sibiului, Tandarei, Anina and Berceni, reaching 401 stores in Romania.

Retail – Auchan

With the occasion of the most important event of e-commerce this year, Auchan Romania announced discounts of up to 50% for a diverse selection of over 1000 products, and other benefits for loyalty card owners.

Retail – Lidl

During winter holidays, Lidl Romania continues the tradition of transforming the joy of giving into real support for children from disadvantaged environments.

Lidl continued the investment on the local market by opening a new store in Magurele, Ilfov district, reaching 362 stores at national level.

Retail – Mega Image

Mega Image launched an improved app for online shopping and for following the loyalty benefits, and wants to offer an easy and coherent digital experience.

Mega Image announced the expansion of the partnership with Pluxee Romania and introduced online payment with Pluxee food and gift cards.

Carrefour Romania announced a new cooperative in Our Garden program, located in Malu Spart, Giurgiu district.

Carrefour Romania finished the remodeling of the Pantelimon hypermarket from Esplanada Commercial Center, Bucharest, after the acquisition of Cora Romania stores.

Retail – Selgros

Talented chefs from 16 gastronomic units in Romania competed on the 16th of November for a place in the final of the Arena Bucatarilor cooking competition, organized by Selgros Romania. The retailer named the winners of the competition.

Retail – Kaufland

Kaufland Romania expanded its presence at the national level and opened a new store in the Ilfov district and a new store in Braila.

For the festive season, Nespresso presented a limited edition collection, created with Jean Imbert, the executive chef of Plaza Athénée restaurant from Paris.

Black Friday remained the shopping event of the year in Romania, and a new survey made by Veranda Mall, on 1153 respondents, showed that this trend is increasing: 8 out of 10 Romanians wanted to participate in the event, and over half of them made time to make a shopping list for Black Friday, especially for products like small appliances, clothes, perfumes, and Christmas gifts.

Food Service

Sphera Franchise Group, the biggest operator from the foodservice industry in Romania, that administrator Taco Bell brand in a franchise system, expanded its network by opening the fifth restaurant in Bucharest, in Plaza Romania.

Premier Restaurants Romania, the operator of McDonald’s restaurants network in Romania, marked a new step in the expansion of its network by opening a new in-store restaurant in Bucharest.

E-commerce

Freshful by eMAG launched the collecting service of packages with a guarantee from the Guarantee-Returning System and offered 1 leu each for every collected package. The service overcame the threshold of 1 million SGR packages processed in a month.

The 14th edition of Black Friday, the day with the most discounts of the year, took place at eMAG on the 8th of November 2024. eMAG prepared over 1.5 million offers with its Marketplace sellers.

Tazz, one of the most important platforms of quick delivery in Romania, put for sale over 200.000 vouchers of over 20.000.000 lei between the 8th – 10th of November, for Tazz Bank Friday 2024 campaign.

In October 2024, grocery retail in Romania opened 18 stores, with this number being just the stores opened and officially released by the retailers.

The deliveries of new retail projects can overcome the threshold of 200.000 sqm, given that in the first three trimesters have been finished 140.000 sqm of commercial centers and retail parks at the national level, according to the data from Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.
