Between 25th and 26th of October 2023, the business publication retail-FMCG.ro organized the second edition of EXPO RETAIL – Digital, Green & Tech, the professional fair dedicated to technology, equipment, solutions and services for retail, eCommerce and FMCG industry, that took place at Combinatul Fondului Plastic – sala Senat, in Bucharest. These are the conclusions after event, some numbers of the participants, video store and many images. Over 70 meetings were programmed through B2B meetings platform in the two days of exhibition.
On 4th of October 2023, on the International Pets Day, retail-fmcg.ro launched EXPO PET 2023 – Food & Accessories, the first B2B exhibition with products from food and accessories for pets categories in Romania, that will take place on 26th-27th of June 2024, the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, in the same time with EXPO DIY 2024 – Smart Green Home, the biggest professional fair in Romania and the region dedicated to the DIY, Home Improvement & Garden sectors, organized by BricoRetail.ro.

Retail – PROFI
Ahold Delhaize, one of the biggest players on the global market of food retail, that owns in present 19 brands worldwide, including Mega image, announced that it reached an agreement to acquire Profi Rom Food company, that operates the store network Profi in Romania, from MidEuropa.
PROFI, the retailer that owns the biggest national coverage and the most stores in Romania, opened 6 new stores in September 2023, reaching 1683 stores.
PROFI launched Profi Retail Media, the biggest network in Romania.

Retail – Kaufland
Kaufland Romania launched the campaign „The future starts now”, an initiative through which supports modernization and technology of Romanian schools.
Kaufland Romania opened a new hypermarket in Alba Iulia and a new store in Bucharest and reached 171 stores.
At 18 years from entering Romanian market, Kaufland became a dominant player in retail sector. From the first store opened in 2005, in Colentina district in Bucharest, and a team of 500 employees, Kaufland Romania reached today at a network of 171 stores in 95 cities and a team of 17.000 employees. Is one of the biggest private employers in Romania and developed one of the most sustainable business models. The year 2022 marked an expansion record for the company, with 16 opened stores.
Retail – Auchan
Until 24th of October, Auchan Romania celebrated 17 years of activity and prepared hundreds of anniversary offers, meant to celebrate clients loyalty and to protect the shopping power of Romanians.
Auchan Romania continued the investment in the development of the stores network and improved the hypermarket model by developing a new concept for this format, that it is already applied in Auchan Berceni.
Auchan Romania continued the development of the proximity segment and opened the 7th supermarket of the network, in the offices building U•Center 2.
OMV Petrom and Auchan Retail Romania finished the arrangement of almost 400 proximity stores MyAuchan in all Petrom stations.
Retail – Carrefour
Carrefour Romania continued to expand and opened the first hypermarket in Craiova.
Carrefour Romania continued the investment in the development of local products segment and signed partnerships with six new agriculture cooperatives in many regions of the country: Fierbinti, Beius, Ostrov, Targu Secuiesc, Husi and Voinesti.
Carrefour French group announced a strong financial performance for the third trimester of the year, with growth sales of 9% than the same period last year and with 31% growth for e-commerce. The values of the local market in comparable terms placed Carrefour Romania on the third place on the evolution of the market share in Europe.
The Competition Council authorized the transaction through which Carrefour Group intends to acquire Romania Hypermarche S.A., the company that operates in Romania the hypermarket network cora and proximity store Cora Urban
Retail – METRO
METRO celebrated the entrepreneurship with the occasion of the event „Your Business Day”, that reached the 8th edition this year.
Retail – Mega Image
Mega Image announced that it obtained the certification from Bureau Veritas for the management system of food waste, that attests that the entire process of management of food waste is implemented and is in conformity with the requirements of the Bureau Veritas standard „Food Waste Management System”.
Mega Image announced the partnership with Glovo, multi-category platform that offers access to a large variety of products, to expand the quick delivery service of online shopping, that completes its own platform mega-image.ro and the mobile app.
Retail – PENNY
PENNY continued its expansion plan and opened a new store in Focsani, reaching 352 stores.
PENNY Romania announced significant changes in the management team, to consolidate and align strategic objectives for the next period. Starting with January 2024, Dan Crisan, who owned the role of National Sales Manager at PENNY Romania in the last 10 years, will become the new COO of PENNY| REWE România.
Retail – other retailers
MOL Romania launched a unique coffee blend, roasted and packaged in the dedicated roastery, Roastar.
SMYK All for Kids, one of the biggest retailers of the toys, clothes, shoes and accessorizes for kids segment, opened a new store in Craiova, in the newest mall in Romania.
NEPI Rockcastle, the biggest investor and developer of commercial centers in central and eastern Europe, opened in Craiova a new Promenada commercial center, after a greenfield investment of 136 millions euro.
Secom Healthcare, leader of authority in solutions of integrative medicine, will also invest in 2023 over half a million euro in its own retail network, to be belong people that want a healthy lifestyle and to support them with a integrated portfolio of superior products and and services.
CBRE, global and national leader in services and commercial real estate investment, highlighted that, despite multiple challenges on the retail market, the sector registered a considerable progress.
AFI Europe finished its first retail park developed in Romania, located in Arad.
FMCG
PURINA, one of the biggest producers of food for cats and dogs in the world, owned by Nestle, will launch 20 new products in the next months, to respond the growing needs for health and wellbeing improvement of pets in our country, the company announced on the International Pets Day.
For the first time in Romania, a beverages producer will manufacture recycled PET designed to its beverages’ packages. Coca-Cola system in Romania, formed by Coca-Cola Romania and Coca-Cola HBC Romania, installed a decontamination unit for PET flakes in the factory in Ploiesti, the second biggest factory in Coca-Cola HBC group, owning unique capabilities to produce recycled PET in its factory.
Mars Petcare celebrated International Pets Day and encouraged the adoptions of dogs and cats.
Unilever invested 48 millions euro in the last three years in the factory from Ploiesti.
Aivia, the Romanian brand of 100% vegan products, without Es – the majority of them representing vegan alternatives to meat products – aimed the expansion of the distribution at European level.

Sphera Franchise Group, the leader of food service industry in Romania, that owns the company that administrates in franchise system KFC brand locally, expanded the network by opening the third KFC unit in Craiova, with an investment of almost 500.000 euros, and opened a new restaurant in Slobozia, after an investment of 1 million euros.
Burger King, one of the most known fast restaurants network in the world, opened a new restaurant in Bucharest on 12th of October, in Plaza Romania.
E-commerce
With a consolidates percentage of 3.17% of generated GDP from the online sales of goods and services (e-GDP), Romania is on the third place in Central and Eastern Europe and on the 12th place on the European continent, according to the data from the most recent European Report of E-commerce 2023 published by Ecommerce Europe and EuroCommerce.
eMAG launched Drinks & Coffee Shop, a shop-in-shop online concept of beverages, wines and coffee, with over 21.000 available products in the eMAG’s offer and over 7000 sellers in the Marketplace.
Bringo, the first Romania platform specialized in personalized online shopping and quick delivery at home, launched in 2015, announced the leaving of Catalin Samara from the company management and named Florina Dobre as CEO of Bringo Romania.
Glovo, the multi-category platform, that offers access to a large variety of products, announced a new partnership with LEGO Certified Store, through which users have now access at emblematic pieces and sets for construction, with quick delivery, in less than 60 minutes.
