In December 2017, the FMCG retailers from Romania opened a total number of 40 stores, compared to 45 units opened in November 2017.

PROFI retailer, owned by private equity fund managed by Mid Europa Partners, has expanded the national network to 694 stores and remains the retailer with the most units but also the one with the largest expansion in Romania, present in 379 localities. The retailer managed to open a total of 15 stores in Romania only in December.

Lidl opened in December four new stores in Constanta, Tulcea, Suceava and Timisoara, reaching a total of 220 units.

Carrefour opened one new store in the newest commercial center in Ramnicu Valcea and a Supeco store in Hunedoara, reaching a total of 311 units.

Mega Image launched a new Shop & Go store concept. The store is located in Plaza Romania commercial center, Bucharest, and commercials Mega Apetit products.

dm drogerie markt, stores the only drugstore chain in Romania, opened in december 3 new in Ramnicu Valcea, Cluj-Napoca and Arad.

Auchan Retail Romania online took the first step to e-commerce launching the platform www.online.auchan.ro, the retailer’s online store where are available, for the moment, just multimedia and electro products and just for the Auchan Militari store. Also, the retailer is committed to review 100% its offer, and starts a process to check what products are made for a healthy lifestyle, that will be marked with blue label.

Auchan opened in December 3 new MyAuchan stores, other than the ones in partnership with Petrom Romania.

Kaufland Romania, the biggest private employer in Romania, announced the decision to raise the minimum salary for the commercial workers to 2.800 lei per month, including lunch tickets and the gift tickets. Also, the stores from Iasi have been transformed and are the most modern from the company in Romania, having a new concept that includes Food Court and Open Mall.

The retail market in Romania, estimated at 40 milliards Euro, increased with 12% in 2016 according to a study made by Euler Hermes, the global leader in commercial credit insurence.

According to the „Holiday Shopping” study, made by MEDNET Marketing Research Center, budget the total for these holidays is 1.771 lei.

Farmec, the largest cosmetic manufacturer in Romania, entered the luxury cosmetic market and launched its first range in this segment – Gerovital Luxury.

The production operations of the FrieslandCampina Romania factories from Cluj-Napoca and Targu Mures are lead by Lucian Chelba.

Halewood Wines & Spirits online launched its first platform www.halewood.shop, with wines from its own production, but also wines and spirits, crafted beers and tonic water, from the world’s top producers.
