profiRetail – PROFI

PROFI, the retailer that owns the network with the biggest national coverage and with the most stores in Romania, opened 5 new stores in August 2022 and opened 13 stores in September 2022.

Profi app, officially opened on 1st of April, reached over one million users.

Profi announced the public launched of its campaign to support local producers, on 23rd and 24th September at Apos,

PROFI launched Via PROFI, the online platform meant to identify and support local producers in Romania.

Profi has a new CEO: at the end of three years of success as General Manager of Profi, Pawel Musial is retiring and gave the managing to the actual Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer – Gaetan Pacton, starting with 1st of October 2022.

Retail – PENNY

PENNY, one of the most active retailers in Romania, continued its expansion plan by opening the fifth store in Arad and a new store in Calarasi.

Retail – Kaufland

European Mobility Week was celebrated at national level through a new campaign developed in 65 cities in the country – Romania Changes the PET with the ticket, an initiative of Act for Tomorrow Association and Kaufland Romania.

Kaufland continued to invest in Romania and opened a store in 4th District of Bucharest, reaching a national network of 156 hypermarkets.

Retail – Carrefour

Carrefour Romania continued to expand the Supeco network and opened a store in Barlad, reaching a national network of 28 stores of the discounter format.

Carrefour Romania launched the fourth edition of the campaign Payment with PET, in 20 hypermarkets in the country, on 22nd of September 2022.

Retail – Lidl

Lidl Romania opened a store in Targu Mures, Mures county, on 15th of September, reaching 338 stores in Romania.

Between 1st and 7th of September 2022, in the program Clear Romania, Lidl Romania with Mai Mult Verde, WWF-Romania and ASAP (The Army of Careful Selection of Plastic) organized a series of actions for cleaning and collecting plastic from the sides and water of Danube and actions of educating and awareness.

Retail – cora

cora continued to develop its new concept, cora Urban, by opening a new store in Bucharest, on Liviu Rebreanu street no. 13.

Retail – other retailers

AFI Europe representatives with Arad City Hall started the first modern retail park that will be constructed in the center of the city.

Fressnapf Group, European leader on the market of food and accessorizes for pets, with annual sales of over 3 billions euro, opened one of the first stores in Romania, in Bucharest, in Drumul Taberei commercial center.

The new DIANA store, located in Copacelu, Valcea county, has a surface of over 4000 sqm, its own parking area and a payment point for utility bills.

OMV Petrom, the biggest integrated company of energy in the South-Eastern Europe, installed photovoltaic panels in 110 stations OMV and Petrom in Romania and wants to expand to 150 units until the final of the final of 2022.

Oasis Retail Development & Consulting, owned by the entrepreneurs Klaus Reisenauer and Kurt Wagner, started the second phase of development of the project PRIMA Shopping Center from Sibiu, a total investment of 30 millions euro.

Animax, the biggest network of pet shops on the Romanian market, part of the group Pet Network International, opened two new stores, one in Bucharest and one in Turda.

FMCG

Napolact joined the activity of the biggest edutainment park from Eastern Europe, Destiny Park, that opened for children on 2nd of September, in Bucharest.

La Fantana, leader on the B2B market of services of water in Romania, announced the refurbishment of the factory from Sibiu county, a short time after it opened recently the production in the new factory from Sestina (Mures county) – where the supplier of water and coffee services will bottle high quality mineral water.

Bakery School started with the third generation of students.

At 26 years, Ionel Burtea manages a business in agriculture with 6 millions euro by selling fresh fruits, has investments with European funds of 2 millions euro in agriculture machinery, deposit spaces, construction of greenhouses in protected spaces and agritourism, and next year planned to list the company, Abund Berry, at the Stock Exchange, to attract capital for growing the local production.

The new flashlights from VARTA offer practical functions and illuminate the comfortable nights in ambiance and style. The new models Outdoor Ambiance Lantern L10 and L20 will be available in stores starting with October 2022.

HEINEKEN Romania announced its intention to stop the activity in the factory from Constanta, in September 2023.

With 18 years of experience in sales and business development, George Mihai occupies, starting with September, the position of Development Manager for FMCG of Interbrands Orbico, the biggest company of distribution and logistic services in the industry of FMCG and Beauty in Romania.

L’Oréal Groupe named Elis Isa-Sipciu as Corporate Affairs and Engagement Director at L’Oréal Romania, starting with September.

Bergenbier S.A., part of Molson Coors Beverage Company, one of the most important companies on the beer market in Romania, launched the platform „Friends know how to be responsible”, a project that contains actions of social responsibility and the third edition of Sustainability Report for 2021.

CAHM Europe, Romanian company – leader in producing and selling of cosmetics to the hotel market in Romania and South-Eastern of Europe, but also an important retail supplier, set the main objectives of the business strategy, after a year in which the company extended the production, and its main brand – Sense – became more known and appreciated.

Ground and Soul, the first regenerative farm, founded by the Institute of Research in Permaculture in Romania, with the support of Kaufland Romania, opened the online store, from where can be bought the regenerative-organic and high quality vegetables.

Persil is a brand concerned with sustainability and with the  attention for the future, so, along with the NGO Let’s Do It Romania!, through the campaign „For cleaner waters”, proposed to clean almost 10 tones of waste from Bicaz Lake.

Food Services

Premier Restaurants Romania, the operator of restaurants McDonald’s in Romania, launched a recruiting campaign at local level, in Iasi, for the new Drive-Thru restaurant. McDonald’s launched an exceptional trio of burgers in limited edition: Triple McChicken, Triple Cheeseburger and Double Fillet-O-Fish.

FitFresh launched personalized menus for each member of the family.

E-commerce

Froopt, online store with eco fruits and vegetables, entered NETOPIA Ventures portfolio, an investment fund that is part of NETOPIA companies.

In the summer of 2022, Romanians traveled in the country or in other countries, but continued to keep their shopping habits acquired in the last two years and to benefit of the services that ecommerce give them. Between June and August 2022, on eMAG were registered with 11 millions more visits, with 10% more than the same period last year.

dm drogerie markt Romania launched the online store dm.ro, through which offers clients the possibility to order the products from home, with delivery anywhere in the country.

As, in the pandemic years, consumers got used to order almost everything online, these are more and more willing to order also food products, especially as that digital natives become a main segment of clients, according to an analysis made by strategy&, the department of strategy of PwC.

cora consolidated the eCommerce segment by launching the Express FAN Delivery service, through the partnership signed with the online platform for personal shopping launched by FAN Courier, leader on the courier market in Romania.

Services

Starting with 1st of July 2022, in Romania was implemented the National System of electronic invoicing RO eFactura, a mandatory solution for the products with high fiscal risk.

WishMo is the only app that centralizes all the competitions in Romania and that addresses to the companies that organize raffles and to final users.

The Romania entrance in Schengen Area will bring benefits to the local industry of transport, including eliminating waiting time at the border and increasing transport capacity and the number of orders, according of DSV road, the third biggest global supplier of transport and logistics services in Europe.

Cargus, the first company of courier on the Romanian market, launched in Romania its own lockers network and will invest 40 millions euro to expand it, in the next two and a half years.

Analysis

In August 2022, in grocery retail in Romania were opened 22 stores, in this account entering just the stores opened and officially released by the retailers.

Events

2022 brought changes to the study BrandRo 2022, the top of the 50 most powerful Romanian brands, presented on 1st of September 2022, by Revista Biz and made by Unlock Research.
