Retail – Mega Image
Mega Image continued the expansion and development plan through opening new stores in Bucharest and in big cities in the country. Now, the Mega Image network has reached a total of 906 stores. 61 stores open by retailer this year so far.
Mega Image published, for the second year, the non-financial annual report, that reunites information about the environment and social aspects, but also about the companies steps in 2020 for a positive impact for communities, but also for clients and for entire team.
Retail – METRO
METRO Romania launched the new extension of the logistic center ONE ROOF from Stefanestii de Jos, reaching a surface of over 65.000 sqm.
Retail – Carrefour
Carrefour opened on 30th of November 2021 a hypermarket in Barlad Value Center, the first commercial center in Bralad, Vaslui district. This is the 42th hipermarket Carrefour in Romania.
Carrefour Romania supplemented its offer of local fresh products in its stores from the Center and West of the country, with vegetables, greens and fruits from Zarand zone.
Retail – Lidl
Lidl continued the investment in Romania by opening a new store in Baia Mare, Maramures district, on 18th of November, and will open a new store in Focsani on 2nd of December. With these two openings, Lidl reached 316 stores in Romania.
Retail – PENNY
PENNY discounter continued its expansion plan in Romania by opening a new store in Falticeni, Suceava district. In November, PENNY opened six new stores and reaches a total of 294 stores. Seven more openings are planned in December, so the retailer will end the year with 301 stores in Romania.
PENNY started a big program of certification BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) for all the stores that it is constructing in present.
Retail – Profi
After one year and two months from launching at Ploiesti the new concept store New Profi, Profi Rom Food, the retailer that owns the network Profi with the biggest national coverage and with the most stores in Romania, reached a number of 100 stores of this type.
PROFI inaugurated in November 2021 a number of 20 stores, and its national network reached 1,570 units in Romania.
Retail – Auchan
Auchan Retail Romania and OMV Petrom continued the integration process of the proximity stores MyAuchan, in the commercial spaces from the gas stations. At the beginning of November, the MyAuchan store network in Petrom gas stations numbered 100 units in 59 localities in 14 counties in Romania.
IULIUS company and Auchan retailer consolidated the partnership that they have in Iasi, through two new supermarkets that will be opened, next year, in the Family Market projects from Bucium district and Miroslava.
Auchan Romania published the first Sustainability Report that presents the impact of its activity and the non-financial performance of the company in 2020.
Retail – Kaufland
Kaufland Romania opened on 25th of November in Timisoara the 147th hypermarket of the national network, an investment through which it creates over 90 jobs and supports the local economy.
Kaufland Romania introduced for the first time a social component in the loyalty program Kaufland Card and invited its clients to get directly involved in social causes with which they resonate.
Retail – other retailers
Bebe Tei, a brand that is part of Tei Group, opened a new store in the commercial center Bucuresti Mall – Vitan.
The retail network of DIANA stores opened the 67th store at national level, in Ramnicu Valcea.
FMCG

Olympus, one of the main dairy producers on the local market, celebrated 10 years from the opening of the biggest and technologically advanced factory of dairies in the country, by launching the first r-PET milk bottle, produced with almost 35% recycled plastic, 100% recycled.
Inter Conecter, the company from Timisoara specialized for over 20 years in the import of coffee, sweets and premium food products, officially presented in Romania the entire range of Segafredo coffee.
CAHM Europe, Romanian company founded in 2004, leader in producing and selling cosmetics on the hotels market in Romanian and in South-Eastern Europe, but also an important supplier of retail, launched the reserves for liquid soaps Sense, 100% recyclable, CAHM Europe managing to put on the retail market the first package 100% recyclable.
Macromex, one of the main players in the Romanian food industry, estimated a market share of 685 millions lei in 2021, an annual increase with 15%, and launched the platform horeca.macromex.ro, to support the affected units by Covid-19 crisis.
Aquila, the main player on the distribution market of FMCG with over 26 years of experience, debuted on the Regulated Market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) under the symbol AQ.
Food Service
Sphera Franchise Group, the owner of the company that operates in franchise system the Pizza Hut brand in Romania, announced the continuation of the development plans from the second semester of this year, and opened a new Fast Casual Delivery location in Targu Mures.
Two young people, students and entrepreneurs, launched a business that combines a healthy lifestyle with with a gourmet approach of daily dishes and passion for cooking, EasyBitez.ro.
Premiere Restaurant Romania, the operator of the McDonald’s restaurants network in Romania, extended the network and opened a new drive-thru restaurant in Pallady neighborhood in Bucharest.
E-commerce
The company of technology 2Performant, leader on the market of affiliated marketing in Romania, listed on the AeRO market of BVB and inclued in the BET AeRO index (2P symbol), that operates the biggest affiliated marketing platform in Romania, and is directly connected to the e-commerce industry, predicted that Black Friday 2021 will firstly mean an extension of the promotion periods, but also more careful buyers and more aware of the prices and the value of the online stores’ offers. According to 2Performant, in the period 1st-14th of November, 462 online stores that activate in 25 different industries and that had sales campaigns, made through the platform 2Performant.com 115.000 sales, in value of 6.929.804 euro + VAT, with 47,8% more than last year.
Freshful represents an investment of over 5 million euro in technology, operations and, in premiere for the Romanian market, in an own cold storage.
Bolt, the biggest European platform of mobility, extended the quick delivery options in Romania by launching Bolt Market.
